Maintaining a BMW can be an expensive endeavor but this specimen had reduced some of that cost by replacing the running gear with some Chevy components.  This 7-Series put out 325 horsepower from the factory but now hosts a turbo LS motor tuned to put over 500 horsepower.

The E65 7-Series is not the most reliable and the 2002 model year was plagued with the most problems.  The model had many transmission issues and electrical problems.  This example takes care of a lot of that by swapping over to the GM 4L60E transmission and running Chevy electronics.  Even the gauge cluster has been swapped over for a GM unit.

I like to think the seller took my advice and used the tried and true 4.8L iron version of the LS series motor found in many GM trucks and vans.  It is a great candidate for boost and has even been rebuilt before being swapped in.  The top end components look to be from a car version of the motor and most likely come from a Camaro.  It even has an exhaust cutout so you can anger your neighbors at the flick of a switch.  The seller is asking a lofty $19,999 for his hand built turbo cruiser.  This is an interesting build but is it still a basket case?
